More Than 800 Guests Gathered To Commemorate 66 Years of Friendship and Signature Service From One of New York’s Leading Social Service Organizations
The Greater New York Chapter of The Links, Incorporated celebrated the organization’s 66th anniversary with the 2016 Women of Distinction Spirit Awards. Hosted by Rhonda Joy McLean, President, Greater New York Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, the event was held March 26, a sparkling Saturday afternoon at the scenic Pier Sixty at Chelsea Piers. With an appropriate theme of Celebrating 66 Years of Friendships and Signature Service, the 2016 Spirit Awards continued the tradition of the Greater New York Chapter of The Links as the signature fundraising event of the Greater New York Chapter.
The sold-out event was attended by 825 influencers from New New York’s business, civic, social service, philanthropic and artistic sectors each year with the goal of raising awareness and funds for the chapter’s work in the following areas: Services to Youth and Scholarship, the Arts, National Trends and Services,International Trends and Services and Health and Human Services. This year’s luncheon honored Emmy Award-winning journalist Jacqueline Adams and technology pioneer Dr. Marian Croak, Vice President of Access Strategy and Emerging Markets for Google. A special tribute was also held honoring beloved Link Betty King Obiajulu, platinum member and former Greater New York Chapter President.
Barbara North-Lightning and Victoria James were the 2016 Luncheon Chairs. Luncheon Vice-Chairs were Kaylyn Johnson Chandler, DeNora M. Getachew, Icema D. Gibbs, Lynn K. Law, Katrina McGhee, Rhonda R. Mims, Gerri Warren-Merrick, Johnita Walker Mizelle, Helen C. Shelton and Linda Zango-Haley.
