Shooting at T.I. Concert Leaves One Dead, Three Wounded

A shooting at a hip-hop concert where rapper T.I. was set to perform left one dead and three wounded on Wednesday night.

Authorities are searching for a man who was captured on surveillance footage firing a gun at Manhattan’s Irving Plaza concert hall. Police said that a fistfight broke out on the upper floor of the concert hall, spilling over to a VIP area where shots ran out.

T.I. was not yet on stage when shots broke out, and is said to have been in another part of the building. Rappers Maino and Uncle Marda were performing at the time.

The person who was fatally shot has been identified as Ronald McPhatter, NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said at a Thursday press conference. One of those who were injured by the shots was rapper Troy Avenue.

Another victim, a 26-year-old woman, was shot in the leg, and another, a bystander, was struck by a bullet that pierced through the floor as he stood on the floor below. Both are expected to survive.

Videos posted on social media appear to capture the chaotic scene after shots rang out.

Police have not made an arrest, but according to the Associated Press, the investigation into the gunman is “progressing rapidly.”

This is not the first time gun violence has broken out at a concert where T.I. was scheduled to perform. In 2006, a gun battle broke out at a party after a concert where T.I. performed near Cincinnati, killing a member of his entourage. Two people sustained gun wounds last March in a nightclub in Charlotte. N.C., where he was set to perform.

T.I., who was sentenced to 11 months in prison on federal gun charges in 2010, did not appear to play a part in Wednesday night’s shooting, say police.
