Retired NFL Player Nnamdi Asomugha Makes Broadway Debut In A Soldier’s Play

By Flo Anthony

Award-winning actress Kerry Washington’s husband, Nnamdi Asomugha, has transitioned from NFL player to Broadway actor. He is making his Broadway debut in the Roundabout Theater Company’s first Broadway production of my Howard University fellow alumni, Charles Fuller’s award-winning drama, A Soldier’s Play. Portraying Private First Class Melvin Peterson, Asomugha, who retired from the NFL after a stellar 11-year career as a four-time All-Pro Cornerback, is considered the “best player in the Oakland Raiders franchise ever.” He joins three-time Tony award nominee David Alan Grier, two-time Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood, Jerry O’Connell and a stellar cast, in this magnificent play directed by Tony award winner Kenny Leon.
