Film Independent announced the winners of its annual Spirit Awards Grants on Saturday in West Hollywood.
The Spirit Awards nominee brunch, hosted by actors Michael Peña and Emmy Rossum at BOA Steakhouse, honored three emerging filmmakers with $25,000 each in unrestricted funds.
“The Kill Team” director Dan Krauss received the 20th annual LensCrafters Truer Than Fiction Award, presented to an emerging director of nonfiction films.
Meanwhile, Rania Attieh and Daniel Garcia, directors of “H,” won Kiehl’s Someone to Watch Award. In its 21st year, this is the oldest award in the trio.
Chris Ohlson was honored with the Piaget Producers Award given to emerging producers who demonstrate creativity, despite limited resources.
Winners of the remaining categories will be revealed at the Film Independent Spirit Awards on February 21. The awards ceremony will be broadcast live on IFC at 2 p.m. PT.
