Whoopi Goldberg will co-star in ABC ’s comedy pilot “Delores & Jermaine,” Variety has confirmed.

The casting of Goldberg in the sitcom comes at a time of major behind-the-scenes changes on the net’s daytime talk show “The View,” where she has served as moderator since 2007 and is still under contract for another year.

If the pilot is ordered to series, Variety has learned that Goldberg will continue her duties on both ABC shows. “Delores & Jermaine” will film in New York City where the comedienne lives and already works on “The View.”

The multi-camera comedy, based on the life of comedian Jermaine Fowler, follows a millennial (Fowler) who moves in with his strict estranged grandmother (Goldberg), a football-loving former cop who needs her grandson’s youthful enthusiasm just as much as he needs her parenting.

Goldberg will also serve as an exec producer with her partner Tom Leonardis on the ABC Studios project, which will schedule production around “The View,” if ordered to series. Michael Rotenberg and Avi Gilbert of 3 Arts will also exec produce with Danny Chun who penned the pilot with Fowler, who will pull double duty, as co-star and co-exec producer.
